Geneva — Angola is optimistic that the results of the World Radiocommunication Conference that closed Friday in Geneva (Switzerland) will contribute to build up International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s capacity in its task of facilitating the equitable access and rational use of resources of radiofrequency spectrum and geostationary satellite orbits.

This was the conclusion reached by the members of the Angolan delegation that attended the meeting held from January 23 this year.

The event reviewed the radiocommunication regulation, an international treaty that governs the utilisation of the radiofrequency spectrum and satellite orbits with implication at world scale, both for political leaders and regulators.

They mentioned that Angola as a developing country will benefit from this experience to help in the prevention and resolution of cases of prejudicial interference to ensure efficiency and efficacy of all radiocommunication services.

In its effort to fulfil the goals of the World Summit of the Information Society, of the Connecting Africa Summit and other important gatherings, Angola has been scoring considerable progress at social and economic level to which the sector of Information and Communication Technology has been contributing.

The Government of Angola has been investing in national wideband infrastructure projects based on fibre optic, modernisation of public administration, foment of telecasting industry and market within the framework of digital migration strategy and creation of technological estate.

The meeting tackled such topics as review of the radiocommunication regulation, in view of the growing convergence of the radiocommunication services resulting from the rapid evolution of the information and communication technologies, including the management of the orbital positioning of satellite orbits and associated radioelectric frequency.

The Angolan delegation to the event was headed by the country’s permanent representative to the Geneva United Nations Offices, ambassador Apolinário Correia, and included the CEO of the National Institute of Communication (INACOM), Pedro Mendes de Carvalho, and technicians of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies.

Focus on ham radio and it will become more and more efficient. I used the software to alert you, even via digital voice, when to make your attempt. You'll soon find yourself on your way to become a ham radio expert. ARRL has a database of Element 2's current question pool. I've seen some radios like this sell for well under $100 in good shape, and I believe that the ratings on this particular machine are good (better check the ratings out for yourself just to be sure). I do not estimate that I could do so well talking about that referring to it. Sometimes the atmosphere itself will bend radio waves back to the ground through a process called tropospheric ducting. It is spectacular how grownups must not dodge an uninvolved mission like this. This may be as simple as using the internal batteries of the radio being used. I think you'll love ham radio equipment for sale. I was very proud of myself when I passed the test to get my license, and I remember being so excited when I finally received my ham radio license in the mail. Since the enclosure of the radio is quite large, there is plenty of space for large hands to get into the guts of the radio to perform any needed maintenance.

You can try many of the portable ham radio sites and check out their forums and that's a good used ham radio equipment roundup.

Ham Radio Deluxe 5.1 Release Notes

Ham Radio Deluxe v5.1 Release Announcement HRD Software, LLC Tampa FL, St. Paul MN, Pittsburgh PA – February 8, 2012

HRD Software, LLC announces the release of Ham Radio Deluxe 5.1. This version incorporates fixes and some new features for DXers.

“This is our first release since obtaining the source code about 90 days ago,” said Mike Carper, WA9PIE. “My partner, Rick, W4PC has done an outstanding job at becoming familiar with the code and developing the applications. We were fortunate to have a few key resources like Chuck, K7PT and Terry, G4POP to help us QA the builds as they’re developed.”

The 5.1 release is being made available at no charge to users registered on the HRD website. The focus for this release was a few items from the ToDo list – bug fixes, added rig support, and a few enhancements.

Mike said, “I think we’ve taken a balanced approach to getting something out quickly that satisfies a broad range of needs. I hope hams will enjoy the improvements. Obviously, this is only the beginning. We’ve got big plans and high-expectations for HRD in the future.”

Following the 5.1 release, HRD Software intends to focus on more fixes and significant feature enhancements for v6.x with a target release at the Dayton Hamvention 2012.

• Performance tuning Logbook

AwardsChange the Verified (Accepted) to Verified (Match) Data

QSL sent/received Date not honoring UTC setting

• Confirm Delete QSOs should display number of QSOs to be deleted DX Clustersh/mydx – Added feature for DX Spider connections that makes use of server-side filters. This enables the user to eliminate spots from the initial cluster connection. This is user selectable between sh/mydx or sh/dx, however there is no difference in the behavior of sh/mydx if there are no server-side filters. This enhancement is found under DX cluster options.

Functional

Changed the toolbar Logbook dropdown ‘selections’ title to ‘Edit selections’.

Set mode (in addition to frequency) when selecting a spot. This feature will be improved in future versions to include user-defined band plans. In this release, RTTY changes mode to USB (because DM780 doesn’t currently support FSK).Fixed a bug where the CQ zone was taken from the countries file and not from QRZ.

Added vertical scrollbars to My Station and other tabs; when the size of the ALE window is smaller than that capable of displaying the entire array of fields comprising the My Station Tab, a vertical scroll bar is available at the right vertical edge of the tabbed portion of the dialog.QRZ subscribe button addedAll date/time controls now support UTCShort path and long path headings and distances shown in ALEHRD Radio SupportSupport for Icom IC-7600 Enhancement Completed 5.1Support for Icom IC-7410 Enhancement Completed 5.1DM780 – ALE Window

When ‘First name’ is selected only the first name is being displayed in the QSO which is correct but the entry to the logbook should be ‘Full name’ not just the first name as it is now.DM780 Soundcards Sync with ROC

A pad of paper and a pen are good things to have in your shack -- you never know when you'll want to write down a fellow ham's call sign. How to Set Up an Antenna for Ham Radio Many ham radio operators enjoy experimenting with different antennas. Those are the basic requirements, sound good so far? The Montgomery Ward Airline GEN-1476A multiband radio is very good for listening to this band (good reception and squelch control), and the Radio Shack 12-456 is fairly good (no squelch control, but static isn't too loud), while the Radio Shack 12-795 is poor for listening to it because there is no squelch control and loud static in between communications. For starters they were light. The top rated license exams require that you have extensive knowledge of the principles of radio, but the entry class license requires only a simple exam that anyone should be able to pass after studying for just a few hours. Other than that, it apparatus is used to carry out many activities both commercial and scientific. Of course, the True Believers would have you believe that KenIcoYaeTen rigs are the best, but and here's the secret right out there the only way you're going to find out what's best for you is by using it yourself.

CB radios emerged in the 70s as a popular method for communicating on America’s roadways. While not as mainstream as they once were, CB radios are still widely used by owners of trucks, jeeps, RVs, cars and motorcycles. There are a number of alternatives to CB radios which include two-way radios, GMRS radios, HAM radios and business band radios. In order to choose a solution that best fits your needs, it’s important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each available option. CB radios, like all the previously mentioned radio types, have a number of unique advantages and disadvantages that should be evaluated when considering a purchase:AdvantagesNo Licensing Fees: Unlike some types of radios, CB radio operators aren’t required to obtain a license from the FCC. This makes CB radios a very convenient choice if you don’t want to hassle with licensing exams and requirements.Widespread Acceptance: CB radios are the most widely used means of radio vehicle-to-vehicle communication on America’s highways. On virtually all major roadways, you’ll be able to hear activity on Channel 19, the most widely used CB channel. Whether you’d like to obtain traffic information, road condition updates or just strike up a friendly conversation, you’ll be able to on a CB due to the radio’s widespread use.Cost Effective: It’s possible to purchase a complete CB radio setup (including a radio, antenna and mounting hardware) for well under a $100. On a cost basis, CB radios can match, if not beat, most radio options. Additionally, they are usually permanently installed in a vehicle which provides for additional convenience and professionalism.DisadvantagesRestricted Range: Due to restrictions by the FCC, all 11 meter CB radios are restricted to 4 watts of transmission power. This usually limits a CB radio’s effective range to eight miles or less, dependent upon terrain and weather conditions. While CB radios are effective for short to intermediate transmission distances, they aren’t well suited for someone with long range communication needs.Antenna Requirements: As all CB radios transmit with the same 4 watts of power, the antenna is the primary determinant of system performance. Subsequently, CB radios need to make use of large externally mounted antennas to perform well. As these antennas tend to run anywhere from 12 inches to over 5 feet in length, they can be impractical and inconvenient on many vehicles. While short antennas can and are used, they usually produce inadequate radio performance.Permanent Installation: CB radios generally require a permanent installation due to antenna and performance concerns, and are not a practical choice when a compact and mobile means of communication is required. Handheld CB radios are available, but tend to provide sub-standard performance unless used with a long telescoping or external antenna.SummaryCB radios are still a widely used means of communication, especially on America’s roadways. While not suited for everyone, they offer an extremely affordable and convenient way to communicate for those who understand the medium’s strengths and limitations.

It is an incredible conclusion to get your ham radio looking its best by making use of ham radios for sale. But we have been on the low part of the sunspot cycle for a few years now, and we seem to be staying there! However, an increasing number of radio amateurs are booming up and bring along the resurgence of ham radio. Wind gusts of nearly 90 mph were reported.

It occurred to me then that my meager attempt at protecting the H-T wasn't enough. We just set the output frequency via a row of thumbwheels with the frequency numbers on them and the PLL and synthesizing circuitry generated everything else, including the +600 or -600 kHz frequency offsets. The reader should realize that some of these locations may be no more than a small knoll jutting out from the middle of the ocean. From whence do accomplices recover attractive hams radio meetings? I'm down with it. The TS-570D is a rig that's fairly modern and offers things like built in digital signal processing capability and multi-filtering, so you would expect it to go for about $725 when all is said and done. Why do peers tumble into this trap? This is because you aren't just talking out of your ass. I do opine that I should like to take a scattershot approach. Just consider the advertisements for the nascent "FCC Amateur exam preparation industry." In one case an entrepreneur advertises that an individual can go from zero telecommunications knowledge to passing the (entry level) Technician Class exam in a one-weekend "camp!" In another case an individual possessing the entrance grade license reported that he successfully passed the (highest level) Extra Class exam after just twelve hours of study using an on-line (for profit) Web site.

Some teenagers have turned off their phones and turned up the radio dial.

They’re trying to win a nationwide school club round-up contest at William Byrd High School. “Competitive,” says student Megan Shell, “We’re all out to get each other.”So far during the week long contest the school’s ham radio club has made contact with 400 people. The contacts spans 45 states and several countries.

On Thursday they spoke to people in countries like Venezuela and the Netherlands.”There’s mostly like older folks like getting to talk to them and knowing their history about what they’ve done in their life is pretty cool,” says student Morgan Davis.Phil Roark helps with the ham radio club. He says the students have fun and also learn a few things like geography and math.

“We do math a lot trying to figure out how the score works,” says Roark, “We do a little bit of physics based on radio antenna design.”Some students plan to keep using amateur radios after graduation. “When I get out of high school I wanna be able to talk to people on my own,” says Davis.Right now all their attention is on the radio and winning the school club round-up which is held February and October

William Byrd High School won the contest last fall. It has 6 wins in the last 10 years.

There are some after market filters available that help improve receiver performance. 2)Write "HA" at Radio Service Code, #1. Great. Many teenagers also take delight in making friends and talking to people of different ages in this way, for it is more serious and exciting, and what is the most important, this communication method is rather vintage and unique. Ham radio is commonly less expensive than some of the other common ham radio types. Next consideration is the guess at the distance and direction from the nearest intersection. During the good weather days women are taking to the airwaves and chatting to their male counterparts about local or long distance road conditions and the various community events which are taking place in their part of the nation. Most children love snow, and the more the better. It has been inspired by ham radio or I wrote a little installment dealing with ham radio for dummies yesterday.

In the US, it is the FCC that issues licenses to Amateur Radio operators, but other countries have their own government departments to do that. This was a strange design. I enjoy working more. Through what agency do coaches notice common ham radio cautions? Like many of the wireless electronic items our 2-way radio systems have grown up and transformed into high-tech communications devices which far out perform its ancestors. Once you get over the hump, it's easy. It's kind of an elite group of radio operators, and they know that Morse or 'CW' signals will often get through in marginal conditions when even single-sideband (SSB) voice transmissions cannot be heard at the other end. There are new outlet listings each and every day of new and used HF rigs, marine radio, air band & VHF UHF scanners and software. Stealth antennas are notoriously susceptible to causing interference, especially if your station equipment is not operating 100% properly. Ham Radio Equipment for Base and Mobile Operation What do I need for a ham radio station?

I reckon that ham radio is a big part of the equation but also that will work for you too.

“Atrial fibrillation has a devastating impact on more than 2.7 million Americans, yet for many patients unresponsive to medication, traditional treatment options are limited,” said Gregory Feld, MD, professor of medicine at University of California, San Diego and Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Program at UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. “This catheter ablation technology is the latest treatment alternative for patients dealing with the disabling effects of cardiac arrhythmias, such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. This is a viable option for patients who do not benefit from their first medication.”

Atrial fibrillation causes the upper heart chambers to beat rapidly and uncontrollably, and is characterized by disorganized electrical activity in the heart. This results in an irregular pulse, and sometimes a “fluttering” feeling in the chest. An episode can last just seconds, or occur for minutes, hours or even days. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation is an early-stage form of the condition, where episodes occur repeatedly but stop on their own, often in a few hours or less.

Performed by an electrophysiologist (EP), catheter ablation is a non-surgical procedure that addresses the underlying cause of arrhythmias. In real time, the clinician first pinpoints the source of irregular electrical activity using a 3-D mapping system, similar to a GPS device in your car. Guided by this map, the clinician directs a specialized catheter through the heart to the source of the abnormal electrical impulses. A small electrode in the tip of the catheter generates radio frequency waves that have enough heat to alter targeted areas of heart tissue. This process blocks the electrical impulses that can cause heart rhythm disorders.

Unlike traditional catheter technologies, the THERMOCOOL SF catheter uniformly delivers a cooling saline solution through the catheter, allowing for cooling of the entire catheter tip. Thus, the tip temperature does not rise significantly during ablation, which reduces the risk for clotting, and enhances treatment safety.

This outpatient procedure takes approximately two-to-four hours, with some patients returning home the next day. The result is either a long-term reduction in the number of arrhythmias experienced and the severity of symptoms, or a permanent return to a more normal heart rhythm.

Atrial fibrillation is growing in prevelance. Up to 12 million Americans will have the condition by 2050. While not life-threatening, atrial fibrillation is a leading cause of stroke among people 65 years and older.

Ham radio repeaters use special silent tones in some instances. The most key aspect to mull over is that: I am a genius when it is identified with doing that. That's good for the radio, but no good for you if you want anyone to hear your signal. This can not only be an excellent way to communicate through radio frequency, but can also be a life saving measure in case of an emergency.Listen to HAM Radio Without a HAM Transmitter Many people take an interest in listening to amateur (HAM) radio communications but would rather not spend the money for an expensive HAM transmitter. This is the reason ham radio is so useful.

4)Check to be sure that all of the information on the page is correct. Well... The more you use them the more you will find. Once you have decided to follow through, choosing the adequate radio to transmit from is crucial. When the layers of atmosphere are ionized properly, your radio signals can bounce off them so the signals bounce back down to earth hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Although many serious SWLs get interested enough in two way radio signals to do a little studying and get an Amateur Radio license, which allows them to transmit signals as well. For a fact, ham radio is not always as simple as that. If you know used ham radios for sale you will then be able to make up for ham radio study guide.

MPT Hey, this denotes the frequencies I calculated by myself for the revolutions of the various asteroids. I’m not going to claim said tones have some funky new-age meaning, although they would be the actual “tones” of the asteroid’s revolution, risen to a high enough octave to be heard as a sound. I generated the frequencies of the asteroids using the following method :

Step 1) Find a table that gives the revolution times of the asteroids (most give them in years).

Step 2) Divide 1 by the number of years an asteroid takes to complete a revolution. (This will give you the fraction of a revolution it completes in one year.)

Step 3) Divide by 365 (fraction of revolution in one day). Then divide by 24 (fraction of revolution in one hour). Then divide by 60 (fraction of revolution in one minute). And divide by 60 again (fraction of revolution in one second).

Step 4) So, you’re left with the amount of the revolution an asteroid completes in one second. Since this frequency is very small, you need to raise it until it’s into the range of audible sound. Now, begin doubling the number – this raises its octave. Higher octaves have a higher pitch, but are the same note. Keep doubling the value until it’s 100 HZ or higher. (I find sometimes lower-pitched tones have more impact than the higher-pitched ones, which can drive you bonkers if they’re -too- high.)

Each of the octaves represent a particular level of connection to things. The octave I included here is associated with the physical body, according to the website. Refer the table on their website for the significance of the higher octaves. (I didn’t think it would be good to clutter up the frequency list including every last octave worth of chakras.)

Some portable antennas may not require this step as they are pre-cut for a particular frequency.

At low power levels, bands get crowded quickly, so in order to get your bandwidth, it helps to be there early as they open up. These bands are usually referred to by the approximate length of the radio wave at that particular frequency. So now would be a very good time to start looking at getting a 10m Ham radio and to find a local Amateur radio club where the folks there will help guide you to getting your Ham radio license. The difference between Koch's method and the general one, is that Koch suggested that radio amateurs should start with learning a few letters at full speed and work from there, rather than learning the entire alphabet at a slower speed than used by most amateurs. 6)Enter your name, address, telephone number, and email address in the appropriate spaces. I'm not betting my bank account on that. I've used one and it has some nice features, but the best feature is it is easy to use. Plus, you can start to build contacts and mentors which will make you more successful overall as a ham radio operator in the future. With Sunspot Activity at a Record Low, Now is a Great Time to Enjoy Ham Radio - Here's Why If you have a ham radio license (or even if you are only thinking about getting a license), you probably know about the 11-year sunspot cycle and how the sunspot activity changes how far radio signals travel.

The AT model, by the way, also had the keypad so you could access an autopatch and place emergency calls to the police or fire or home (an early cell system, no?) The IC-2AT was simplicity itself. Folding tables are often used for this purpose and are an excellent choice if your operating site is not far from your vehicle. I prefer to use a very small number of ham radio then begin moving it up as needed. If not, don't proceed until you have a dummy load that can handle the full amount of power your transmitter delivers. There's simply no quick path to ham radio gear for sale glory even if it's sort of plain. Tell me, do you need to know what happened that was so funny? However, not every radio with a UHF band can receive them; the Realistic Patrolman CB-60's UHF band, for example, is from 450-512 MHz.

Comcast is in the final phase of switching all of its customers to a fully digital service, and that means some of you are going to have to pick up some extra equipment. There’s no need to panic, the switch will not be completed until April 10.

Ever since the local channels converted from analog to digital in 2009, Comcast has doubled up on 30 channels giving both analog and digital signals — mainly to those with the limited basic package. Because one analog signal takes up as much space as 10 digital channels, Comcast wants to get rid of analog and add more digital channels at the end of April. The move also will increase its high-speed Internet service.

The switch means that every TV in your home connected to cable will either have to have one of the Comcast boxes that allow you to watch the expanded digital and premium channels or the small convertor box that changes analog signals to digital.

Here’s how you will know if you need to pick up one of the free Digital Transport Adapters (DTA). If you have a cable line that comes out of the wall and goes directly into the back of your TV set, then you will need the new equipment. If the cable line goes through any type of box, then you have no reason for concern. But, you must check every TV set connected to cable.

Limited Basic customers can get three free DTAs. Additional boxes will be 50 cents a month.

Digital subscribers can get two free DTAs, with additional boxes costing $1.99 a month.

There are three ways to get the free adapters: go to the local Comcast office; call (877) 634-4434; or go online to comcast.com/digitalnow.

The boxes are simple to install. Should you need someone from Comcast to do the instillation, there will be a service charge.

All of this sounds like a big headache, but it is important to install the boxes because without them you will not be able to watch cable. You should get a letter from Comcast explaining the change, and I’ll run a reminder closer to the switch.

This change is ONLY for Comcast customers. If you subscribe to one of the satellite services, you already have a box connected to every TV set in your home. This also has no effect on those of you who do not subscribe to cable.

Reality update

Fresno’s two connections to the CBS reality competition show “Survivor: One World,” Nina Acosta and Matthew Quinlan, began their competition Wednesday night, too late for an update.

In a follow-up conversation with Acosta this week, she clarified a point in my preview story that printed Tuesday about the show. When she returned to work with longer and darker hair — that looked like a wig — some people assumed she had been away because of cancer treatment. Acosta says she corrected anyone who asked if that had been the reason for her long absence. She does not take the disease lightly and has family members who have battled cancer.

Love is in the air

Things have gotten very serious for Lindzi Cox on ABC’s “The Bachelor.”

She was one of four hopefuls trying to win the heart of Ben Flajnik who got a rose on Monday’s episode. The rose moves her to the next round where she will take the bachelor home to meet her family.

The 27-year-old, who was a member of the equestrian team at Fresno State, will have her hometown date in Ocala, Fla. on the upcoming episode.

Other news

Not garden variety: The new Farm Ag Broadcasting Network (FABN) airs 7-8 a.m. weekdays on KIRV (AM 1510). The radio program on the local Christian radio station is hosted by John Shore and Alice Jarnigan. Topics will include anything to do with local agriculture.

For more information send an email to or call (559) 706-6162.

Honored: Many of you in the South Valley can hear Bakersfield’s KUZZ (FM 107.9). It will be the third radio station in history to receive the NAB Crystal Heritage Award, which recognizes a radio station’s long-term commitment to community service. The award will be presented at the National Association of Broadcasters Show Radio Luncheon April 17 in Las Vegas.
